Seit einem Jahrzehnt ist der psychopathische Killer John Kramer alias Jigsaw tot – oder zumindest wird er für tot gehalten. Denn plötzlich tauchen in der ganzen Stadt zahlreiche Leichen auf, die so grausam entstellt und verstümmelt sind, dass es eigentlich nur das Werk von Jigsaw sein kann. Ist Kramer also doch gar nicht tot? Oder setzt einer von Jigsaws Schülern das Werk seines Meisters fort? Während Ermittler wie die Detectives Halloran und Hunt mit Hochdruck nach dem Täter fahnden und sich bald gegenseitig verdächtigen, hinter den Morden zu stecken, wacht eine Gruppe von Fremden in einem schummrigen Raum irgendwo in der Stadt auf. Sie sind in einer von Jigsaws sadistischen Fallen gefangen und müssen zahlreiche blutige Prüfungen bestehen und ihre schlimmsten Sünden gestehen, um jemals wieder ihre Freiheit zurückzuerlangen. Die Folterspiele haben wieder begonnen...
