Spencer Barnes (Charles Grodin), biznesmen i człowiek sukcesu całkowicie oddany solidnej, dobrze zorganizowanej pracy, gubi w budce telefonicznej swój bezcenny notes. Bez znajdującego się w nim dokładnego rozkładu zajęć, staje się całkowicie bezradny i zagubiony. Notes dostaje się w ręce Jima Dworskiego (James Belushi), drobnego złodziejaszka, człowieka niezorganizowanego, pełnego jednak energii i dziwacznych pomysłów.
