Im auf wahren Begebenheiten basierenden Thriller Septembers of Shiraz wird das Schicksal einer jüdischen Familie erzählt, die die Islam-Revolution von 1981 im Iran miterlebt. Im Mittelpunkt der Geschichte steht ein gefangener Schmuckhändler, seine verzweifelte Frau (Salma Hayek) und seine Tochter und sein Sohn, die zusammen versuchen der lebensbedrohlichen Tyrannei zu entkommen. Verkompliziert wird die Sache dadurch, dass der Mann, der das Gefängnis betreibt, der Vater der besten Freundin der Tochter ist.
