Mike Veeck creció a la sombra de su controvertido padre, el famosísimo empresario del béisbol Bill Veeck. Su apellido fue tan legendario como infame en el mundo del béisbol profesional, donde ambos introdujeron la diversión que hoy se da por sentada en los estadios: regalos, noches temáticas, fuegos artificiales y similares. De modo que, cuando Bill invitó a Mike a animar a los White Sox por última vez en 1975, este vio una oportunidad para demostrarle su valía. Pero la alegría duró poco, pues Mike arruinó la carrera de su padre con la desafortunada promoción de la Noche del Disco Demolition. Mike fue expulsado del deporte al que amaba y se pasó las siguientes décadas intentando volver a la cima, resuelto a redimirse y perpetuar el legado familiar.
